TREVI FOUNTAIN
The Baroque triumph between water and stone
The Trevi Fountain is the most famous fountain in the city of Rome in rococo style, initiated by Nicolò Salvi in 1732 and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762.
The majestic monument erected in homage to the God of the sea stages a spectacular play of water, made of shadows and lights that are reflected in marble statues. The God Ocean set on a shell pulled by sea horses and tritons, blends perfectly with the baroque palace that serves as background.
The fountain is fed by one of the most ancient Roman aqueducts, that of the Virgin Water, which flows into the subsoil of the nearby alleys until it suddenly explodes in the square.
Legend has it that if you toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you will ensure your return to the eternal city and lots of love and luck.
